From Protest to President: A Conversation with George A. Pruitt

January 24, 2023

Now available is a video recording of our recent Heldrich Conversation with George Pruitt.

Watch a video of our recent conversation with George A. Pruitt about his new book, From Protest to President. The new book describes Pruitt’s inspirational odyssey from a young, Black activist coming of age in Mississippi and Chicago in the tumultuous 1960s and 1970s, to his 35-year-long presidency at Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey.

Dr. Pruitt discusses what motivated him to write the book, his experiences in the segregated South and where the United States is today in terms of racial discrimination, affirmative action, diversity, distance learning, what employers are seeking in college graduates, college dropouts and how to help them complete their degrees, and his role in urban communities in New Jersey.
