Project

Digital Equity Initiative

December 2024

Sponsored by the New Jersey State Policy Lab, this initiative aimed to advance understanding of the interplay between technology, access to technology, and equity with an emphasis on public administration and policy in New Jersey. To work toward its mission, the initiative employed an interdisciplinary team of graduate students and a diverse set of quantitative and qualitative research methods to prepare a range of research outputs, which include policy reports, blogs, and journal articles. One of the recent projects utilized a survey experiment to examine whether different methods of communication affect comprehension of complex public programs. The experiment tests the impact of three commonly used methods of communicating information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, including a flyer, a web-based screening tool, and a video. Findings demonstrate that technological developments in communication are generally effective at improving comprehension and offer practical implications for program administrators.
