Project

An Overview of U.S. Corporate Policies in the Employment of People with Disabilities: Spotlight on the Retail Trade Sector

January 2008

In 2008, the Heldrich Center completed research on efforts taking place in U.S. companies as they pertain to the hiring and retaining of people with disabilities. The study examined the types of corporate practices taking place in American companies, then focused on a single sector (retail trade), and reviewed the myriad of employment opportunities currently available within the retail industry (the nation’s largest private-sector employer) and how retailers are responding to efforts to move people with disabilities into retail employment.
