Daniel Douglas, Ph.D.

Daniel Douglas, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Montclair State University. He is also a Visiting Faculty Fellow at the Heldrich Center. He was formerly a Lecturer in the department of Sociology at Trinity College and received his Ph.D. in Sociology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Dr. Douglas’s primary research interests include college access and success, mathematics education, and the transition from college to the labor force. His recent scholarship explored alternatives to traditional remedial mathematics education, using experimental and quasi-experimental methods. His other areas of research include the supply and demand for college graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields; the value of short-term and non-degree credentials; and the dynamics of New Jersey’s teacher workforce. His research has been published in Educational Researcher, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and The Journal of Higher Education. His research has been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today, Inside Higher Education, and The Hechinger Report.
