In 2005, the Heldrich Center worked with the New Jersey Governor’s Office to compare the availability of a skilled workforce in the area surrounding Fort Monmouth with the workforce surrounding Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. The report was used to inform U.S. Department of Defense policymakers involved in the Base Realignment And Closing process that the unique expertise found in the Fort Monmouth area would be difficult to duplicate at the reassigned site in Maryland. The report analyzed workforce characteristics in both areas.
