New Brief Explores the Impact of Hard Work in a Pandemic

A new Heldrich Center brief examines Americans’ opinions on whether hard work brings about success.

Impact of Hard Work in a Pandemic, a new brief by Kristine Joy Bacani and Brittney Donovan, examines data from the latest Work Trends survey that reveals Americans’ opinions are generally split on whether hard work brings about success. Even during a pandemic-affected economy, opinions about the role of hard work in guaranteeing success contrast sharply among political party lines especially when asked whether hard work leads to success for racial minorities and women. However, on measures asking about opinions of feasibility of finding a job if the job seeker is willing to work, most Americans believe that finding work is possible.
